Dear partners, colleagues, and friends of State Institution “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University”!
Starting from 2014 – the year of the forced relocation of the University from the city of Luhansk to Starobilsk due to Russian aggression and invasion of the Ukrainian territory – you have been continuously showing us your support and help in our struggle to preserve the University scientific and educational potential, great institutional academic tradition established as long ago as 1921 and focused on the provision of premium quality educational and research services to citizens of Ukraine, as well as of foreign countries.
Together we have come a long way during these last eight years – have reconstructed and renovated University buildings in Starobilsk and Rubizhne, established new multimedia classrooms, opened new resource and culture centers alike “Window on America”, “New Ukrainian School” centre etc., procured numerous technical equipment, furniture, established appropriate conditions at our dormitories, updated curriculum on many academic programmes, established new training courses, mobility programmes for students and University staff – together we have done a lot! And have planned to do much more. Your financial, humanitarian, legal, and other assistance has been of greatest importance for us during all these years.
However, Russian military aggression started on the 24th of February 2022 on the territory of Ukraine has currently resulted in occupation of about 70% of Luhansk Oblast by enemy military forces. For Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University this now means the demolishment of University buildings in Rubizhne (underwent renovation during the last two years thanks to the financial support of European Commission, EU Delegation in Ukraine) and Shchastie, as well as occupying of all of institutional buildings in Starobilsk and Kreminna by the enemy military troops.
Albeit, the University has two structural subdivisions – Faculty of Foreign Languages and Institute of Culture and Arts – that for a number of years have been providing educational services in the city of Poltava, Poltava Oblast. Thus, it is with deep regret and at the same time with enormous faith and hope we inform you that starting from 03 Mar 2022 the administrative body of State Institution “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University”, along with the key strategic departments, have been temporarily relocated to the city of Poltava, Poltava Oblast, the headquarters of the two structural subdivisions named above. The decision has been justified by the need to ensure the safety of our students and staff, to save the lives – as Russian aggression is aimed not only on military objects but also at innocent civilians, at our students and academic staff. The decision has as well allowed for the renewal of education and training process (blended / online modes, with the application of MS Teams, Zoom, MOODLE platforms) with regard to all faculties and institutes of the University.
